How to Split a Payment Online at

The world has come a long way since you could order a house (some assembly required) through the Sears Catalog. But they still don't offer an obvious way to split payments on their website. To get around this and split your Sears purchase, you can buy a Sears gift card and then pay for the rest of the item (or items) with another form of payment.

The first step is, of course, to purchase the gift card. The link for which is right at the top of their home page.

Buying gift card to split payment

Purchase a digital gift card for any amount up to $500 at:

Select the “Email” option and enter your email into the “recipient email” and “confirm email” input. You'll also need to select “Sent to arrive within an hour”. Select a $ amount that is about half the total of your final purchase. I also chose the Rubber Duck email theme, but if you're in a hurry, you can ignore that feature.

Some things to note:

  • A gift card can be set for any value up to $500.
  • If you need more than $500 then you can buy up to 15. This adds up to $7,500 per order!
  • It can take up to an hour for the gift card to arrive in your inbox.

Within an hour you'll get an email with your gift card information. You'll need the number and the pin for the gift card to use it on your final purchase. When you go to check out (and you'll see this interface when you buy your gift card) you can apply your gift card to your order and then pay the remainder using one of the following methods:
